Fall Rehearsal and Performance Schedule
All rehearsals will be held on Monday evenings at Brentwood Baptist Church
Located at 7777 Concord Road, Brentwood, just west of I-65 on Concord Road
Rehearsals are 6:00-8:00PM, with a 10-minute break in the middle.
Sept. Rehearsals: 12, 19, 26
Oct. Rehearsals: 3, 10, 24, 31 (NO REHEARSAL Oct. 17 due to Williamson County Schools Fall Break)
Nov. Rehearsals: 7
Fall Strings Concert: Sunday, Nov. 13

From out-in-the-audience perspective, when the kids played with the WBs, the audience went WILD! The CSYO added as much to the lads as the lads did to them. There should be more of this —more multi-generational musical endeavors!! Yeah, yeah, yeah!!! Thank you for making it all possible!! ~Holly

Mark, since I was the age of the CSYO kids, I always dreamed of playing Beatles music with an orchestra. The kids made a dream come true for me! It is hard for kids to appreciate what making dreams come true means but maybe when they are older, they will remember this special night. It may take long and much effort but dreams can come true. Last March we had the opportunity to appear in a taping for Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music, a new educational music series designed to help elementary school children begin and develop an interest in all kinds of music. We were filmed performing four different music segments at Studio A of the Grand ‘Ol Opry in Nashville, with works by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Debussy. Editing work is underway for the segments we appeared in.

The initial release date has been pushed back a bit by Quaver and is now set for January 2011. New segments of the series will be filmed on an ongoing basis. Producer Steve Gilreath has let us know “CSYO will once again serve as the official youth symphony of Quaver’s Marvelous World, during the next taping period (dates tbd).”

We look forward to partnering again with Quaver and bringing the fun of orchestra music to young students everywhere.

The goal is to put as many solid dates in front of group members as possible, yet still be flexible to accept opportunities along the way as they present themselves.

It is our hope to increase the number of performance opportunities significantly in 2010-11. Our group performs better when it performs more! We’re considering a very wide range of opportunities to perform and welcome any suggestions from our students and parents.

We want to have key dates: all rehearsals, concerts for fall strings, holidays, and spring, plus a special early-summer event nailed down by August 1. Be sure when you register to audition that you carefully review all of our schedule.

Like the Cool Springs Youth Orchestra, students would be selected by a registration and audition process, and meet weekly for rehearsals. Rehearsals would begin after the Labor Day holiday.

Requirements: Open to 7th and 8th grade students who have completed at least one year of band and are currently participating in their school band, if offered at their school.

We are looking at the possibility of beginning a new group in Fall 2010, a New Horizons Band for the Cool Springs area.

The concept of the New Horizons band was pioneered by music educator Roy Ernst in the 1990′s.   Dr. Ernst believed that many people would be capable of learning an instrument for the first time as an adult and began the New Horizons International Music Association.

Now with over 180 groups nationally, 8,000 participants, and new groups beginning internationally, this organization is helping adults learn a band instrument for the first time, using method books, grade 1 literature, and a little help from more experienced players.

We are interested in beginning a New Horizons band here in the Williamson County area in the Fall of 2010.  Please email back to markjohnson@coolspringsyouthorchestra.com for more information.

This summer at our Crockett Park concert, we had our first project where alumni were involved.  Two alums – Lexie Langella (Univ. of Louisville ’12) and Alison Rogers (Murray State ’12) made great contributions to our group!

We would like to have more events in the future where alums will be encouraged to combine with current CSYO members.  Each event will need to have dates well publicized in advance, and be low-cost/no-cost.  Possible dates for these events would be a holiday concert when students have returned home, or early summer.
