Registration and Auditions Overview
Our audition process is designed to be informative, encouraging and without pressure. Students are asked to demonstrate playing skills to indicate their ability to perform well with the orchestra, and to assign chair placement within each section.
All CSYO members from the previous season will be accepted into the Spring 2012 Cool Springs Youth Orchestra. Returning members are asked to re-register so we can evaluate the number of new members to accept on each instrument. Our goal is to always give priority to returning members before seeking new students. All new students will be contacted for an audition time after registering.
Our registration process is designed to capture a broad range of information about students and parents so that we can know you better. We rely on volunteer help from our parents to make many of our activities possible. Students are asked to have parents assist them in completing the section of information for parents.
Audition Requirements and Procedures
After completing and submitting the registration form, you will receive a confirmation email. You will be contacted to schedule a time when you can audition. Auditions typically take about 15 minutes for winds and strings, and about 20 minutes for percussion.
Callbacks can be used in the case of players who have very close audition results or for leadership roles.
Parents are always welcome to attend auditions with their child. Most students will be more at ease if parents wait in the hallway while they complete their auditions.
Since auditions help establish parts and chair positions for the entire year, each student is asked to prepare to the best of their ability.
